INS Delhi, India's navy's indigenously constructed destroyer, ended its goodwill stop in Colombo on Sept. 3, underscoring the deepening ties between India and its island neighbor, Sri Lanka.
The vessel's presence was marked by an onboard reception hosted by the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Gopal Baglay. Among those attending was Sri Lankan Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, the event's chief guest. Other attendees spanned ministers, lawmakers, and top military officials from Sri Lanka. Baglay emphasized the visit as a symbol of the enduring bond shared by the two maritime nations.
During his stay, INS Delhi's Commanding Officer, Capt. Abhishek Kumar honored fallen Indian soldiers at the Indian Peace Keeping Forces memorial and met with the Commander of the Western Naval Area.
The visit of INS Delhi follows the previous visit of the Indian Naval Ship Khanjar to Trincomalee from July 28-31.
