Assistant High Commission of India in Kandy celebrated its centenary with a logo launch event on May 26. High Commissioner Gopal Baglay virtually unveiled the logo, attended by dignitaries, cultural organizations, the Indian Diaspora, and friends of India.

Baglay thanked Sri Lankan authorities for their support over the past century. He highlighted the significance of 2023, marking 100 years of AHCI Kandy and 75 years of diplomatic ties between Independent India and Sri Lanka. It also commemorates 200 years since Indian Origin Tamils arrived. Baglay commended their contributions and reaffirmed India's commitment to mutual well-being.

The winning logo, by Rayees Ahamd Bhat, emerged from MyGov's design competition, featuring both countries' vibrant colors and national symbols.

Initially serving Indian-origin laborers in Sri Lanka's tea plantations, the office in Kandy was established in 1923 as the “Agent of the Government of India.” It was led by V. V. Giri post-independence and transformed into the Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy, in 1965, ensuring continued regional presence and engagement.
