Yoga Day celebrations held at the Hamburg Rathaus in Germany

More than 200 registered Yoga enthusiasts attended the festivities with Indian and German diplomats, well-known Yoga instructors, and thousands of onlookers.

On June 21, the Consulate General of India in Hamburg, Germany, held a Yoga session at the Hamburg Rathaus to observe the International Day of Yoga (IDY). Members of the Consular Corporations, German diplomats, and prominent Yoga trainers were present at the event. The event covered various wellness activities from meditation and relaxation to music and laughter Yoga. Over 200 registered participants (Indians and the native community) attended the 8th Yoga Day. In addition, thousands of students and tourists worldwide also witnessed the mega event while visiting the Hamburg Rathaus or City Hall.

The Consul General John H. Ruolngul conveyed a welcome address followed by remarks from Markus Heilig, the Head of Department International Cooperation, Hamburg.

The “Yoga for Humanity '' commemorations concluded on a lighter note with “Laughter Yoga” by Alex Bannes, Hamburg.

The Indian Association Hannover also organized IDY celebrations in Hannover with Ruolngul.

Yoga Festivities Across Germany

Since its inception in 2015, the Consulate General of India has conducted numerous Yoga activities on the IDY in Hamburg. This year, Rathausmarkt is the prime focus for the North German Yoga location.

In collaboration with the Consulate General of India and Gromitz Tourism, Shaktya e.V. arranged a Yoga session at Gromitz beach on June 18. The charitable organization conducted the Peace, Unity, and Integrity program with the Consul General as its keynote speaker and Heinz Baker, Bürgervorsteher as the important invitee. Dr. Rajesh Mishra welcomed the audience, after which several fitness trainers delivered presentations. The session included Sneha Sharma by Yoga for All, Jessica Ratzlaff by Partner Yoga, Daksh Mishra by Yoga for Children, Harinama Group Hamburg by Kirtan and Meditation, and Alaleh Lotfi by Meditation for Peace.

Similarly, the collaboration marked another IDY Fest on June 17 at Gromitz School. As a forerunner to IDY celebrations, Shaktya E.V. Bremen collaborated with the Consulate General of India to hold a virtual seminar on “Yoga and Infertility,” Hamburg, with active participation from Ruolngul.

Insightful Sessions with Eminent Instructors

On June 25, the Embassy held a Yoga program in Bremen (1400-1730 hrs) with sessions for children and adults. Six celebrated Yoga trainers arranged programs on Vinyasa yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Mantra Yoga, and Hatha yoga. In addition, the famous Yoga teacher Ricardo Santanna and Tabla player Ninad Velankar were the dignitaries at the event.

The program was divided into six sessions with six different personalities. It included Nepal Lodh (Yoga master), Akash Nair (Yoga teacher and fitness trainer), Rebekka Schaefer (Kids’ yoga instructor), Sai Prashanti (Yoga teacher), Ricardo Santanna (Yoga teacher), and Detlef Behnken (Yoga teacher).
