Consul General Anish Rajan hosted South African dignitaries to celebrate the Indian Republic Day in Durban, South Africa.

The dignitaries were Chief Guest, Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni, the MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison; the Guests of Honor, Cllr. Thabani Nyawose, Speaker of Ethekwini Municipality, and Ravi Pillay, MEC for Economic Development, Tourism & Environmental Affairs.

As part of the 75th Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsava, talented amateurs performed various cultural performances.

The staff planted trees on the occasion of Republic Day to encourage afforestation.

The Indian Republic Day was also celebrated in other South African cities like Pretoria and Johannesburg.

The South African Indian origin community numbers around 1.6 million and constitutes about 3% of South Africa’s total population.
