The Indian Embassy in Paramaribo celebrated the Republic Day of India with great zeal and enthusiasm. Indian Ambassador Shankar Balachandran hoisted the national flag of India at a ceremony at the Chancery premises.

The ceremony screened the video of PM Modi speaking on 75 years of Independence and on 'Dhruv' advanced light helicopter manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

The reception was decked up with lights enhancing the look of the event. Indian Ambassador Shankar Balachandran presented the prizes to the National Youth Day quiz winners.

The Ambassador also handed over a model of 'Dhruv' to Ms. Krishna Mathoera, Defence Minister of Suriname, in the presence of the visiting HAL team leader and the Airforce Commander of Suriname.

The event also held an 'Indian Chat Mela' having a wide variety of Indian street food organized as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.'

More than 70 people attended the event, including the Deputy Speaker, Defense Minister, Members of Parliament, Indian nationals, and friends of India.
